I want to start this year 2021 by using this blog as a recording the Salsera's story. Live brings me to the cape from western mass, and out of curiosity, I searched out where to go dance salsa in the cape. to my surprise, I found an announcement about a salsa activity happening in Wellfleet ma. when arrived at the center where the activity was happening I met with an acquaintance from western ma who was conducting the event. at that moment I became committed to the cape and to the vision of setting the roots of salsa in the cape cod area. Today, cape cod has the Cape Cod Salseras. I hope this site will help expand the outreach of the Salseras as a service to the cape cod community.

 

Although the term Salsera, female salsa dancer, is not a new term, the Cape Cod Salseras practice an additional concept. Not only do they love to dance, and find that the medium of dancing is a path to bring communities together, they also have a desire to serve those communities. The Salseras have served through many venues that each cherishes, among them are the New England Wellness Foundation, Cape Cod Wellness Collaborative, and many others.

 

What began as a simple suggestion from Yvonne (the first CC Salsera) has been growing to this day and with the hope that it continues to grow by catching the imagination of all Salseras around the world. a group of individuals coming together to celebrate life and serve communities when needed. The CC Salseras began the night in February 2017, when Yvonne approached me and suggested that we get a group of people together and practice dancing salsa. hence the birth of the CC Salseras. from that point Clara joined in followed by Laura and then Karita. they became the first CC Salseras. soon after the Salseras began to serve the community and dancing salsa, by 2020 the four became six then so on.

 

Today, the CCsalseras are still slowly growing into a multicultural group of vibrant, multigenerational, purpose driven women. This year the vision of the salseras is expanded to produce messages of hope and goodwill. The salseras want to encourage, not just dancing and works of service to one another, they also want to encourage everyone to come together, not to let fear and despair overshadow the need for human service and kindness, as well as giving up coming together in a communal celebration.
